I belong to a community of coaches who are investing in changing the world through developing their skills as coaches and dream builders. The Brave Thinking Institute put out a call for submission for Transformational Coach of the Year. Let me tell you of my journey…
How does one learn to celebrate when all your life you were told to be quiet, to shrink and play small in order to be safe in this world?
How do I learn that I have to show up and take the steps to get past any and all limiting beliefs that have kept me caged in a version of myself that is so not the truth of me?
How do I learn that?
A few years back, I reached out to someone I met in an online meeting. I needed to do something different. I agreed to a daily 7:00 am call to share what I was celebrating and what I was focused on to advance my goals. I love my morning rituals and my dream time snuggling into my warm bed and daydreaming. So, a 7:00 am phone call was a challenge. But daydreaming alone was not building my dream, so I wanted a belief shift.
I have to tell you I had a very, very, very hard time finding something to celebrate. It was not in me to acknowledge my achievements. Nowhere in my life had I ever taken the time to celebrate my wins, small or otherwise.
Now, with Rhonda’s help, I was overcoming this hiding place that was so challenging for me to step out from. Sometimes, I woke up 30 minutes early to see if I could find something to celebrate. What could I own about what I was getting done in my life?
For a year and a half, I practiced and practiced until I found something to say that celebrated what I was doing.
One of the things I see in this world is how little pride we as women get to own for all the work and deeds we give to the world, all the everyday small acts that help others live their lives. I still need to pause on a daily basis, not just to make the list of what I did as proof I was worthy or I am doing the thing, but to be grateful for what I could do and celebrate. I am still learning to celebrate.
So, when the opportunity was put in front of me to take another step to celebrate my work, my dedication to my coaching, and my gifts, I needed to step up.
I have spent thousands of hours studying and practicing these skills. They say a master is someone who put 10,000 hours into their work; I have done that and more. I have 38 years of going to trainings, taking intensives, delivering workshops, and building my skill set; this is my life work, the work I invest so many thousands of dollars into. This is my life. I get to celebrate it!
So, I decided to reach out to a few of my clients and asked if they be willing to make a video or write about their results with me. I wanted to have an out-of-Brenda experience. I wanted to allow myself to own and celebrate all the work I have been doing to be the best coach I can be. I wanted to celebrate the last 10 years of working with other coaches, the business coaches, writing, marketing, and all the areas it takes to build my practice and be an agent of change through my behavior.
I wanted my clients to invest in themselves to invest in their future. How could I be trusted with their dreams if I not speaking up for mine?
I was excited just to have my clients say yes to supporting me this way.
I got invested and excited to ask this of myself, to be willing to say yes to a lifetime of developing my skills as a mentor, consultant, coach, and teacher. Every day, I would see my name appear on the list of those receiving awards. Every day I invested in owning my worthiness, every I was celebrating the work I was doing to achieve my dreams my vision of my being.
So here’s what happened…
