The Connection Between Dream-Building and Storytelling by Brenda R. Bryan
What is transformational work truly about? Transformation is more than mere change; it’s about going beyond—transcending old forms and creating new outcomes. Last year, I began channeling insights into the power of our stories, realizing that by changing our stories, we unlock the ability to build the dreams we desire.
The science of dream-building and storytelling are deeply connected. Neuroscience shows that reprogramming our subconscious depends on awareness. By interrupting habitual reactions and tracing our thoughts (often shaped as “stories”) to our emotions, we can choose thoughts that cultivate the feelings we need for growth. Since 95% of our actions are habitual, noticing our thought patterns enables us to choose paths aligned with what we truly desire. This practice begins with the pivotal question, “What would I love?”
Where storytelling fits in is as a pathway to unmask the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden—often due to fear, self-doubt, or feelings of inadequacy. When combined with dream-building, storytelling becomes a powerful tool for reprogramming our minds and creating a supportive nervous system. By using our creative thought processes, we form new neural pathways that foster new outcomes. To accomplish this requires a vision compelling enough to override the programming we’ve reinforced for years—a story that says we can go beyond the constraints of our current conditions.
We need a new story to break free from the conditioning that limits us. We need to believe that the power that breathes life into us is the same power that enables us to transform. Achieving this requires a disciplined mindset and a belief that we have the right—and the responsibility—to claim our vision and live by it.
Growing up, I was taught that, as a woman, I had no sovereignty over my own life. I learned that life happened to me, not for or through me. I fought against that mindset my entire life, pursuing education, meaningful work, and self-reliance even when things were uncertain. My heart and soul knew I could not surrender my birthright to choose my path.
Looking back, my story is a mix of resilience, vulnerability, and empowerment. Now, in this phase of my life, I feel the weight of scarcity programming I inherited from my family—a belief I am determined to transform. With spiritual tools and awareness, I am clearing these deep-seated wounds, standing for the story I want to invest in, and claiming the life I envision.
Creating change begins with crafting a new story for ourselves. It all starts with a soul-aligned vision, followed by actions that make it real. I feel called to create a sacred space for women to heal—a space to explore, rewrite, and embody our stories. Over the years, I have watched women grow and heal simply by sharing their stories, stepping into their power, and witnessing each other’s journeys.
I am building Sisters Storytelling Circle—a community for women committed to holding space for each other’s stories, creating a powerful sense of belonging and a safe foundation for healing. Where in your life have you silenced your story? Where have you swallowed your voice out of fear of rejection, shame, or judgment?
In this sacred circle, we release all of that—and so much more.
Come join this community. Please share your story, and let’s build connections that allow us to grow, heal, and pursue our dreams together. Let love guide you into new levels of becoming by rewriting your story.
